“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our  lessons come from the journey, not the destination.”(Don Williams)

Something in the Water

Erin and Mark have just married. They are so in love and life seems to be headed in a glorious way. White lace and promises mark their future or do they? Mark suddenly loses his job, but working together they know they can surmount this obstacle. They cancel some wedding plans, downsize their ceremony, but do head off to Bora Bora for their heavenly honeymoon. While diving, they discover a plane that had crashed into the water, and its dead occupants. They also discover a bag containing money, diamonds, a phone, and an USB drive. With this discovery life swerves and changes into something neither of them had planned for. Is this an opportunity or is it a brush with death? Should they keep this bag or turn it in? What would you do?

That bag and its contents will changes everything for this couple. As the couple navigates through what the contents of this bag means for them, they embark on a life not so perfect as they had planned, with its many twists and turns.

Catherine Steadman has created a novel that is fascinating to read. She takes us on a journey where we question motives, ideas, and the concept of how does one in need of money and so desiring of a perfect life, give back an opportunity to achieve it?

“There’s a difference between, as I always say, the destination, the end point, and the journey. The journey has a lot of twists and turns. It isn’t always pretty. (Bob Menendez) For Erin and Mark this journey is not one bit pretty. It is fraught with danger, lies, hopes and dreams that are soon to be dashed.

Thank you to Catherine Steadman, Ballantine, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this debut novel. It was well worth the read!
